Hakata 10 Year Old Sherry Cask Japanese Whisky is the entry point to the Hakata range from Fukuoka Prefecture on the southern island of Kyushu. Hakata is made from barley fermented with koji in the Kyushu tradition, distilled and then matured for a full decade exclusively in sherry casks, and bottled at 42% ABV in a 700ml bottle. The nose is rich dried fruit, warm spice and honeyed sweetness with subtle oak and dark chocolate. The palate is velvety, opening with dark cherry and raisin over the warmth of sherry and oak, then toffee, clove and a subtle espresso undertone. The finish is enduring, with the sherry influence lingering and the oak returning for a robust, well-rounded close. This bottle is an affordable, age-stated introduction to sherried Japanese whisky.
