Contratto Vermouth Bianco is a white vermouth from Contratto, the Piedmont house founded in Canelli in 1867 and now owned by the La Spinetta winery. Made from a 1930s recipe on a base of Piedmont white wine and grape brandy, it is infused with a blend of botanicals including wormwood, gentian, herbs, spices and citrus, with the bitterness of wormwood and gentian giving it an exceptional structure that sets it apart from softer, sweeter biancos. Bottled at 18% ABV in a 750ml bottle. The taste is bold, vibrant and well balanced: floral and citrusy up front, lively herbs and spice in the middle and a clean, gently bitter finish. Serve it chilled or over ice with a lemon twist as an aperitif, in a White Negroni or a Bianco Spritz, or in place of dry vermouth in a martini for extra depth.
