A bold musical turn for Princess Nokia, A Girl Cried Red is the follow up to 2017's critically acclaimed 1992 Deluxe. Drawing on her varied non-rap influences, which ranges from the "introverted acoustic sounds of Elliott Smith to the bombastic pop-punk energy of Paramore," the NY artist delivers her "uncompromising feminist ideology" over 8 tracks, and she sounds as assured and comfortable as she did on her more hip-hop oriented projects. Frasqueri has often proclaimed her love for rock, and here's what she has recently said concerning the genre: "This is our shit. Very naturally, that's why we return to it."
