Hakata 16 Year Old Sherry Cask Japanese Whisky is a long-aged release from Fukuoka Prefecture on the island of Kyushu. Made from barley fermented with koji in the Kyushu tradition, the spirit is distilled and matured for sixteen years in Spanish oak sherry casks, which give it a deep amber color and a rich, complex profile. It is bottled at 42% ABV.The nose is deep and layered: dried fruit, caramel and vanilla with the almond-and-hazelnut nuttiness of sherry wood. The palate is full-bodied and rich with a velvety texture, dried fruit and caramel leading, subtle spice, oak and vanilla adding depth, and raisin and fig throughout. The finish is long and warming with gentle spice.Sixteen-year sherried Japanese whisky at this price is unusual, and this 750ml bottle is a sipping whisky for after dinner.
